(COLDWATER) – Authorities have announced that an individual at Coldwater High School has been diagnosed with tuberculosis.
The Branch-Hillsdale-St. Joseph Community Health Agency says they were notified about someone having tuberculosis and started an investigation. The CHA contacted Coldwater High School and confirmed the person has TB and is receiving treatment.
Coldwater High School is working with the CHA to help identify any possible students and staff from the Spring semester from the 2024-2025 school year to help determine who should be evaluated for infection of tuberculosis.
The CHA says over the next week, anyone identified as possibly being exposed to TB will be notified and also receive recommendations for testing along with a health questionnaire. The CHA and Coldwater High School will be explaining how the questionnaire can be filled out and how testing can be done.
The CHA says if you or your child are not identified as being exposed to tuberculosis, then you will not have to take any action. If you decide to be tested just to be safe, you can call the CHA office in Coldwater at 517-279-9561, extension 123, or your personal physician.
Health officials say you can monitor you or your child for tuberculosis symptoms, which include coughing with or without blood, night sweats, losing weight or not being able to gain weight, feeling tired, a low appetite, chest pain and swollen glands.
