Early Thursday morning, a Freightliner hauling two trailers of general freight driven by Steven Bean, age 35, of Indianapolis, Indiana was traveling eastbound on US 24 near the Baltimore Road Exit 22, when it traveled off the left side of the roadway and struck a guardrail, breaking through the barrier as the semi then traveled off the overpass and onto the CSX railroad tracks below.
Bean was taken to Defiance Regional Hospital and was transferred via air ambulance to a Toledo Hospital. Rail traffic was stopped for approximately two hours as crews worked tirelessly to get the wreck cleaned up.
The crash remains under investigation by the Defiance Police Department, Defiance County Sherriff's Office, CSX Police, the Ohio State Police Department, and Defiance office of the Ohio Department of Transportation.
