(ANGOLA) – A wanted Steuben County man has been located and arrested.

Steuben County Chief Deputy Sheriff Michael Meeks says on Monday just before 4 PM, 36 year old Matthew Friedel was located and apprehended without incident in Rock, West Virginia.

Friedel has been the subject of a joint fugitive investigation between the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office and the U.S. Marshals Service since early August. He was wanted on a felony charge of dealing meth, along with several warrants for failing to appear in court on other cases.

It’s also alleged that Friedel stole a vehicle from a location south of Angola on September 13, which was located later that same day.

Meeks says after several weeks of investigation, information was received, indicating that Friedel had fled Steuben County and was possibly in West Virginia. The U.S. Marshals Service in Fort Wayne reached out to their counterparts in Bluefield, West Virginia to follow up on that information. Friedel was subsequently located and taken into custody without incident with the assistance of the West Virginia State Police and air support from the Army National Guard.

Friedel is being held in the Southern Regional Jail in Beaver, West Virginia, pending extradition back to Indiana.
