(ORLAND) – A Northeast Indiana business has acquired a similar business in Ohio.

Miller Poultry of Orland, Indiana has acquired Gerber’s Poultry of Kidron, Ohio, effective February 28. This will increase Miller’s capacity by more than 50%.

In a posting on the Miller Poultry Facebook page, it’s said that this acquisition brings together two family owned companies, allowing them to grow and produce high quality products for a broader community. The post says this shared heritage and partnership positions Miller Poultry to continue the tradition of raising top quality, Amish raised poultry in the two communities.

According to WATTPoultry, Miller Poultry owner Galen Miller says there has been a long time relationship between the two companies that goes back to the early 1980’s when Miller became a chick supplier to Gerber.

Miller says they look forward to growing the existing family of retail customers such as Kroger, Meijer, Whole Foods and others. He says adding a production base in eastern Ohio gives more potential for markets on the Eastern Seaboard, the Southeast and even Florida.

According to information from the WATTPoultry Top Poultry Companies Database, Miller Poultry processed 3.97 million pounds of ready to cook poultry on a weekly basis and slaughtered 845,000 birds in 2024. They rank as the 22nd largest poultry producer in the United States.

Gerber’s Poultry processed 1.85 million pounds of ready to cook poultry per week in 2024, and slaughtered 600,000 birds. They are the 27th largest poultry producer in the U.S.
