MSP Trooper Injured While Investigating Incident

(BUTLER TOWNSHIP) – A Michigan State Police trooper received minor injuries during a weekend incident.

Just before midnight on Saturday, Michigan State Police were sent to a domestic assault in the 1000 block of Jonesville Road in Butler Township. Upon arrival, troopers discovered the assault was related to a child custody dispute, and found probable cause to arrest a 26 year old man. While attempting to take the suspect into custody, he disobeyed orders to get out of the vehicle and drove away, dragging a trooper for approximately 10 feet.

The trooper was able to disengage from the vehicle and sustained a minor leg injury.

Police searched for the suspect vehicle and found it a short distance away. They attempted to make a traffic stop, but the suspect drove off at a high rate of speed, and got away from officers as he entered Hillsdale County.

Within 30 minutes, the suspect was found at an address in Hillsdale and was arrested without incident. A one month old child was unharmed and returned to the mother.

The suspect is facing charges of domestic violence, child endangerment, resisting and obstructing causing injury along with flee and elude.

The investigation is continuing.
