EAST LANSING – The MHSAA has announced an adjusted schedule to complete the Fall Tournaments and begin the Winter sports season.
On Wednesday the MHSAA Representative Council met to discuss the possible re-start dates for the football, girls volleyball, and girls swimming and diving tournaments. All three, along with the start of the Winter sports seasons were paused as of November 18 for three weeks, due to an epidemic order issued by the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services. The order is designed to slow down the spread of COVID-19.
If allowed by the MDHHS, practice would resume for all three Fall sports December 9. The tournament schedules would be as follows: For football, 11 player Regional finals and 8 player semifinals would be played on Tuesday December 16 and Wednesday, December 17.
The 11 player semifinals and the 8 player Finals would be played December 21 and 22. The 8 player Championship games will be at Midland Community Stadium. The 11 player Finals would be Monday December 28 and Tuesday December 29 at Ford Field.
For volleyball, the quarterfinals in all four divisions would be played Tuesday, December 15, the semifinals on December 17 and 18 and the Finals on Saturday, December 19. The final two rounds would be at Kellogg Arena in Battle Creek.
For girls swimming and diving, all three Lower Peninsula Finals would be conducted on Tuesday December 22 for diving, and Wednesday December 23 for swimming. Three high schools each hosting one meet.
For Winter sports, the Council approved resuming practices on December 9 if allowed by the MDHHS, with competition to begin January 4.
The Representative Council meets again December 4 for its annual Fall Meeting, and at that time will consider possible tournament adjustments necessary due to the shortened Winter competition season.
