Butler, IN – A 14 year old is dead and two other teenagers have been injured following a crash Saturday night. The crash happened just before 7p.m. in the 4500 block of County Road 59 near Butler in DeKalb County.

Investigators with the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Department say a car was traveling north-bound on County Road 59 when it started to run off the road. Reports indicate the driver of the car over corrected and lost control of the vehicle, running off the road and hitting a concrete sign, which caused the car to overturn.

The driver of the vehicle is described as a 16-year-old male from Leo. Authorities say the male driver suffered from a collapsed lung and shoulder injury. A 15-year-old backseat passenger suffered from scratches on the head. Both were taken to Parkview Regional Hospital to be checked for their injuries.

Authorities say the 14 year old who died in the crash was a passenger in the front seat of the vehicle. The victim reportedly died at the scene. The DeKalb County Coroner will release the identity of the 14 year old at a later time.

According to investigators, speed was a factor in the crash. Reports say everyone was wearing seat belts.

The crash remains under investigation by the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Department and the Indiana State Police.

The DeKalb County Sheriff's Department was assisted by the Butler Police, Butler Fire Department, Parkview Dekalb EMS, Indiana State Police, and the Dekalb County Coroner’s Office.
