(GARRETT) – A video led to charges being filed against a Garrett Schools student.
On Monday, Garrett Schools Administration contacted the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office School Resource Officer, advising him of a rifle being located inside a vehicle on school property. The officer responded to the parking lot and took possession of the rifle and then started an investigation.
The investigation discovered that earlier in the morning, a male Garrett student posted a video to a social media app. The video appeared to show the exterior of a Garrett School building from the parking lot, and then scans to the passenger seat where a rifle is observed.
A student in another school district saw the video and notified officials in his school district, who then contacted Garrett Schools administrators about the video.
The Garrett student has been charged with a felony count of possession of a firearm on school grounds and a misdemeanor charge of possession of a knife on school grounds.
