(SCOTT TOWNSHIP) – An Angola man is in the hospital following a one vehicle accident.
Steuben County Chief Deputy Sheriff Michael Meeks says just after 7:30 Thursday morning, deputies were called to the area of County Road 200 North and County Road 200 East for a report of a single vehicle crash and the driver being ejected.
Deputies and first responders arrived and found a man laying on the ground unconscious and unresponsive.
Investigators determined that 25 year old Camdin Jewell of Angola was driving his SUV west on County Road 200 North at what appeared to be a high rate of speed. One witness told deputies that Jewell passed her, then lost control of his vehicle and went off the north side of the road and collided with a tree. Jewell was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected during the crash.
Jewell was initially taken to Cameron Memorial Hospital, and then flown to Parkview Regional Medical Center and is in the Intensive Care Unit where he is being treated for internal injuries.
Assisting at the scene were the Angola Police and Fire Departments, the Metz Fire Department and the Indiana Department of Natural Resources Law Enforcement Division.
The accident remains under investigation.
