(COLDWATER) – No injuries were reported when an airplane had to land without any landing gear.
The Branch County Sheriff’s Department, along with the Coldwater Fire Department and Life Care Ambulance were all called to the Branch County Airport in Coldwater at 1:30 PM Friday.
They were told that 38 year old Jeffery Chatfield of Coldwater and 45 year old Robert Coles of Vicksburg had taken a 1966 Piper PA30 twin engine airplane out for some testing. As they came in for a landing, they were not able to lower the landing gear.
The pilots put the plane down off the runway on its belly. Minor damage was done to the propellers and possibly to the undercarriage. The matter is still under investigation.
