INDIANAPOLIS - Indiana Governor Eric Holcomb signed a disaster order for a nationwide aide compact in response to possible stress on the state's emergency response team during the upcoming solar eclipse.
Indiana is expecting hundreds of thousands of visitors for the Monday, April 8 eclipse as well as an influx of in-state travel.
The mayor's office anticipates widespread and significant impact on Indiana’s critical infrastructure systems including for communication, emergency response and transportation, according to the order.
Gov. Holcomb said the influx could result in a, “technological or other emergency.”
His disaster emergency order lets the Indiana Department of Homeland Security enlist the support of members of the nationwide Emergency Management Assistance Compact (EMAC) to, “ensure statewide preparedness.”
The order is immediately effective and ends April 9.
