STEUBEN COUNTY, IN - The Steuben County Coroner's Office has confirmed that the driver of a stolen car involved in a fiery crash was a 14-year-old boy who had run away from home.

Ashley-Hudson police officers investigated a suspicious vehicle in the 100 S block of Harrison Ave. around 11 p.m. on April 19.

When they approached the vehicle, the driver sped off.

They attempted a traffic stop on Wabash Avenue, but the driver fled, leading officers on a high-speed chase east on 800 S into Hamilton.

The vehicle turned back and headed west on 800 S.
After crossing Old 27, the vehicle turned into a yard, hit a tree, and burst into flames.

Extreme heat prevented the driver from being extracted.

Police learned the vehicle had recently been stolen.

The Steuben County Coroner's Office took over the death investigation.

DNA testing was completed Wednesday and it was determined that the driver was missing 14-year-old Jaden Bowman who had recently run away from home.
