MICHIGAN – The Michigan State Police are kicking off their “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over,” campaign starting Friday, August 12 and until September 5.
In a press release, the Michigan State Police said the Labor Day holiday is one of the deadliest times of the year for impaired driving fatalities.
The Michigan State Police said in 2021, 45 percent of fatalities on Michigan roadways involved alcohol and/or drugs. They further explained there were 9,557 alcohol-involved crashes and 357 of those alcohol-involved accidents resulted in fatalities. The Michigan State Police also state there were 2,999 drug-related car accidents in 2021 with 275 of those accidents resulting in fatalities.
During the 3-week campaign the Michigan State Police will have an increased number of law enforcement officers on Michigan highways.
Michigan State Police said in their press release, “in Michigan, it is illegal to drive with a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of .08 or higher, although motorists can be arrested at any BAC level if an officer believes they are impaired.”
The campaign, “is supported with federal traffic safety funds provided by the United States Department of Transportation and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and coordinated by the OHSP,” wrote the Michigan State Police in their campaign’s press release.
