This week Congressman Jim Banks voiced his concern that rioters are not being held accountable for their actions.
He has written a bill that would strip a rioter caught and convicted of looting, vandalism or violence of coronavirus unemployment benefits.
This bill is called the “Support Peaceful Protests Act.” Congressman Banks states that it will not only hold rioters those individuals rioting and looting accountable by preventing them from receiving enhanced unemployment benefits, it would also force those arrested and convicted to pay for the cost of policing their spectacles.
Congressman Banks adds that while he, along with his colleagues, support the right to protest peacefully, “it’s time to put a stop to the destruction of American cities and leaving the taxpayers and small business owners holding the bag.”
