Auburn Police Pursuit Thursday

AUBURN, IN - On Thursday August 6, 2020 at approximately 5:00pm Auburn Police attempted to stop a 2003 White Pontiac Grand Prix. Auburn Police observed the vehicle at the intersection of Grandstaff Drive and 7th street and as the vehicle passed the Officers location it appeared that the juvenile female passenger was attempting to get the Officers attention.

The Officer followed the vehicle and learned that the registration on the vehicle was false and fictitious.

The officer initiated a traffic stop in the area of 15th and Grandstaff and as the officer was approaching the vehicle on foot the driver sped off. The Officer pursued the vehicle through the South side of Auburn where it disregarded several stops signs and traveled at speeds of approximately 55 mile per hour. The vehicle continued through Auburn and then East on C.R. 46a where it reached speeds of approximately 100 miles per hour.

The vehicle eventually stopped in the back yard of a residence in the 500 block of Washington Street, Saint Joe Indiana. The female driver was taken into custody. It was determined that the driver, April Harrington, age 41, (white, female) lived at the residence. The female Juvenile passenger was unharmed and released at the scene to her father.

An Auburn Police K-9 was used for a free air sniff of the vehicle and gave a positive alert. A subsequent search of the vehicle located a small amount of marijuana and 48 controlled substance pills. April Harrington had a driver’s license which was suspended with a prior conviction and had no insurance on the vehicle.

April Harrington was incarcerated on the following charges: Reckless Driving – Class C Misdemeanor, Neglect of a Defendant – Level 6 Felony, and Resisting Law Enforcement – Level 6 Felony.
