(AUBURN) - A DeKalb County jury took less than an hour to convict a Fort Wayne man in an Auburn shooting case. The Star newspaper reports 42-year-old Joseph Alan Fisher was found guilty Thursday of attempted murder, along with residential entry and possession of methamphetamine. Attempted murder is a Level 1 felony under Indiana law.

Prosecutors told jurors Fisher fired multiple shots at Clifford Grim from a vehicle after becoming angry that Grim was with Fisher's ex-girlfriend. Witnesses testified they heard gunfire and saw two vehicles speeding away, and a 911 recording captured the sound of shots and Grim screaming.

Investigators linked shell casings at the scene to a handgun found in a nearby bush. Jurors heard jailhouse testimony that Fisher admitted he intended to kill Grim. Additional testimony showed Fisher entered a home on Cleveland Street without permission and later admitted to possessing methamphetamine.

Defense attorneys argued the evidence was inconsistent and questioned whether Fisher ever had a gun.

Following the guilty verdicts, the jury also found Fisher to be a habitual offender, increasing the potential sentence. Fisher could face up to 65 years in prison, with sentencing scheduled for January 13.
