(FREMONT) - An Illinois driver was arrested for allegedly going the wrong way on the Indiana Toll Road on Wednesday morning, Dec. 17.

Indiana State Police say a trooper spotted a black SUV traveling the wrong direction and making an illegal U-turn on I-80 near Fremont. The vehicle was stopped before anyone was hurt. During the traffic stop, the trooper reported a strong odor of marijuana, leading to a further investigation. Police arrested 65-year-old Mario Lloyd of Illinois on multiple charges, including operating while intoxicated, possession of a controlled substance, criminal recklessness, and driving with a suspended or revoked registration. Lloyd was taken into custody without incident and booked into the Steuben County Jail.

Indiana State Police are reminding drivers that marijuana remains illegal in Indiana and that driving under the influence is illegal nationwide. Troopers say impaired driving puts everyone on the road at risk and urge motorists to make safe choices and find a sober ride.

Police emphasize the arrest is based on probable cause and that all suspects are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
