(INDIANAPOLIS) - Indiana's job market remained strong in September, continuing to outperform the rest of the country.

The Indiana Department of Workforce Development reports the state's unemployment rate held at 3.7 percent, well below the national rate of 4.4 percent.

Indiana also saw a higher share of people working or looking for work. The state's labor force participation rate was nearly 64 percent, topping the national average. That means more than 3.49 million Hoosiers were employed or actively seeking jobs.

Employment continued to grow, with more than 5,000 private-sector jobs added in September. The biggest gains came in professional and business services, leisure and hospitality, manufacturing, and construction.

The demand for workers remains high. State officials report nearly 88,500 open job postings statewide, while continued unemployment claims stayed relatively low.

Job seekers looking for work, training, or career resources can find more information through the Indiana Department of Workforce Development.
