(INDIANA) - Indiana Michigan Power customers can earn credits on their electric bills by reducing or shifting electricity use during periods of high demand.
I&M's voluntary Power Rewards programs generally target peak hours between 3 and 7 p.m., when electricity use across the system is highest.
Three options are available:
Smart Thermostat
Customers who already have a qualifying smart thermostat can allow I&M to make small temperature adjustments during peak-demand events. Participants remain in control and can opt out of individual events. The program offers up to $30 in bill credits.
Home AC
Customers without a smart thermostat or home Wi-Fi can have a free control device installed on their outdoor central-air unit. During peak-demand events, the device briefly cycles the air-conditioning compressor to reduce electricity use.
iControl
Customers with smart meters can manually cut electricity use during two- or three-hour summer events. Bill credits are based on how much energy each household saves.
Waiting until after peak hours to use washers, dryers, ovens and dishwashers can help customers reduce demand and earn larger credits.
Enrollment is free and voluntary. More information is available at electricideas.com/powerrewards.
