Steuben County Deputies Handle 65 Incidents Over Holiday Weekend

(ANGOLA) - On the Fourth of July weekend, the number of people in Steuben County grows exponentially. That leads to more calls for the Steuben County Sheriff's Department. Dispatchers and deputies handled 65 incidents over the 2026 Fourth of July holiday weekend.

The department's incident summary covered calls between 7:55 a.m. Friday, July 3 and 7:55 a.m. Monday, July 6.

Traffic-related calls made up a large share of the weekend activity. The report listed 13 property damage accidents, two personal injury accidents, one fatal accident and four separate property damage complaints.

Deputies also handled two OWI calls, one alcohol offense, one domestic call, one battery, five disorderly conduct calls, one trespassing complaint, one fraud report and two theft reports.

There were also two fireworks complaints, three suspicious activity calls, one juvenile problem, two mental problem calls, two animal cruelty reports, one animal problem and one medical call.

The report also listed seven agency assists, three K-9 assists, five alarm calls, one missing person report, one leaving the scene call, one custodial interference call and one citizen assist.

Calls were reported in and around Angola, Fremont, Orland, Pleasant Lake and Ashley, along with several reports on I-69.

The incident summary does not list final court outcomes. Anyone accused of a crime is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
