(MUNCIE) - A rare painting created by Bob Ross for his television series "The Joy of Painting" is heading to auction next week.

The painting, titled "Mountain Summit," was created for season 13 of the popular PBS program and will be offered during an online auction June 30.

Net proceeds from the sale will benefit Ball State PBS.

Organizers say some Bob Ross paintings have sold for more than $1 million, although no estimate was released for the upcoming auction.

Ross filmed 30 of the 31 seasons of "The Joy of Painting" at WIPB in Muncie, helping make the station the longtime production home of the series.

Ball State PBS officials say the painting represents an important piece of both television and Indiana history.

More than 30 years after his death, Ross remains one of public television's most recognizable personalities, known for his calming teaching style, landscape paintings and message that anyone can create art.

His legacy also continues in Muncie through The Bob Ross Experience at Minnetrista Museum and Gardens, which features original artwork, artifacts and the restored television studio where the program was filmed.
