(INDIANAPOLIS) - Indiana ranks second in the nation for job resignation rates, according to a new analysis of federal labor data.

The study, conducted by Template.net using U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics data from September through December 2025, found an estimated 91,500 Hoosiers quit their jobs each month during the four-month period.

Indiana posted an average resignation rate of 2.8 percent, trailing only Alaska at 2.83 percent.

The analysis measured resignations as a percentage of total employment and found Montana ranked third at 2.73 percent. Michigan and Ohio also ranked among the states with higher resignation rates, while Massachusetts had the lowest rate in the nation at 1.4 percent.

Researchers said resignation rates can be influenced by factors including industry mix, seasonal employment patterns and overall labor market conditions.

Nationally, the quit rate increased slightly from 1.9 percent in December 2024 to 2.0 percent in December 2025, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics data used in the study.

Analysts said higher resignation rates can reflect workforce mobility and workers' confidence in finding other employment opportunities.
