(AUBURN) - The DeKalb County Commissioners have approved a revised request for information as they continue looking for ideas to redevelop the former Sunny Meadows County Home.

The Star newspaper reports the county is seeking proposals from developers, nonprofits and other organizations interested in leasing and repurposing the historic property. Commissioners added language encouraging partnerships that would combine revenue-generating uses such as events, hospitality or agritourism with nonprofit educational and historical programming.

The revised document also highlights federal historic tax credits that could help offset rehabilitation costs.

Commissioners clarified that proposed water, sewer and road improvements near the property remain conceptual and have not been approved. The county also will not provide funding for restoration or operations.

Before the request is formally issued, commissioners approved a contract for pest eradication work at Sunny Meadows. Officials say a release date and response deadline for the RFI will be announced after that work is completed.
