(ANGOLA) - Power outages are impacting hundreds of residents in the Angola area following Monday night's storms.

Utility officials report about 1,200 NIPSCO customers and roughly 500 REMC customers in Steuben County are without power this morning.

The outages come after strong storms moved through the region with high winds that brought down trees and power lines.

Across the state line in southwest Michigan, tens of thousands also lost power. Consumers Energy says nearly 70,000 customers were affected at the peak of the outages.

As of this morning, more than 1,200 customers remain without power in Branch County, with larger outages still reported in Calhoun, Kalamazoo, and St. Joseph counties.

Crews continue working to restore service across the region.
