(ANGOLA) - A recent wave of community support over the broken flagpole outside the Heritage Club is now helping draw attention to a larger fundraising effort already planned for next month.

The Heritage Club says people in the community began talking this week about the damaged flagpole and the center's inability to properly display the American flag.

In an update to supporters, the organization says an anonymous donor has now stepped forward to pay for repairs, allowing the flag to once again fly outside the center.

Heritage Club leaders say the response was humbling and served as a reminder of how deeply the community cares about the center, its mission and the older adults it serves.

The nonprofit says that momentum is now being used to highlight Friends of the Center Day, scheduled for Thursday, May 7 from noon until 4 p.m.

The event is aimed at building support for the Heritage Club's monthly giving program, which helps fund the center's work throughout the year.

According to the organization, that includes meals, wellness programs, social connection, transportation access and special events for older adults in the community.

The Heritage Club says annual operating costs run about $275,000, while member dues cover only a small share of that total.

Staff say Friends of the Center Day will give both individuals and local businesses a chance to learn more about the center's financial needs and sign up to provide ongoing monthly support.

Heritage Club leaders say the flagpole repair may solve one immediate problem, but the center's broader need for year-round community support remains.
