(QUINCY) - Quincy's flour mill will cease operations at the end of the year. Star of the West Milling Company says it will close the facility on or around January 1st, according to World-Grain.com. The company cites the mill's age, limited production capacity, and flat demand for wheat flour as key reasons for the shutdown.

Star of the West, based in Frankenmuth, has operated the Quincy mill since 1979. About 15 employees will be affected, though the company has offered them jobs at its mills in Ligonier, Indiana, and in Frankenmuth. While flour production will end, the grain elevator and bulk truck washout services at the site will continue operating. The Quincy mill's history stretches back to 1863.
