(INDIANAPOLIS) - Seven new Indiana State Troopers are now ready to hit the road after graduating from the 89th Indiana State Police Lateral Recruit Academy.

The ceremony was held Wednesday at the Indiana Government Center South Auditorium, where Superintendent Anthony Scott delivered the commencement address.

Major General Lawrence Muennich administered the oath of office before each trooper received a badge and official identification.

This class is made up entirely of experienced law enforcement officers, each with at least three years on the job. Because of that, the academy was condensed into nine weeks of intensive training totaling nearly 300 hours.

Troopers completed coursework in criminal and traffic law, de-escalation, emergency vehicle operations, defensive tactics, firearms, impaired driving detection, and scenario-based training.

Each graduate will now report to one of 14 state police posts across Indiana, where they will spend the next three months in field training alongside experienced officers before moving into solo patrol.
