(INDIANAPOLIS) - Indiana regulators are launching an investigation into rising energy bills following widespread complaints from customers.

The Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission will examine affordability at the state's five major investor-owned utility companies: AES Indiana, CenterPoint Energy, Duke Energy, Indiana Michigan Power, and Northern Indiana Public Service Company.

The inquiry comes after growing public frustration over high heating and electric costs across the state.

State officials say the investigation will focus on how rates are set and what factors are driving higher bills for customers.

The commission's hearing is scheduled for March 24 in Indianapolis.
