NWS Confirms Two Tornadoes Struck Southern Indiana During Thursday Storms

(SOUTHERN INDIANA) - The National Weather Service has confirmed that two tornadoes touched down in southern Indiana during severe storms Thursday evening.

The first tornado occurred in rural Sullivan County between 5:52 p.m. and 5:59 p.m. It was rated an EF-0, with peak winds estimated at 85 miles per hour.

A second, stronger tornado hit the west side of Bloomington from 6:57 p.m. to 7:06 p.m. Officials rated that tornado an EF-2, with peak winds reaching about 120 miles per hour.

Both storms caused damage to wooded areas, farmland and some residential and industrial properties. No injuries were reported.

Weather officials continue to survey storm impacts as cleanup efforts move forward.
