(FORT WAYNE) - An Indiana state lawmaker is urging regulators to review rising electricity and natural gas rates charged by Northern Indiana Public Service Co.
State Rep. Jim Pressel said constituents across northern Indiana are struggling with high utility bills and want relief. He has asked the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission to examine NIPSCO's expenses, rate increases and billing transparency.
Data cited by the lawmaker shows some residential customers saw bills jump sharply over the past decade.
Pressel also called for short-term steps to stabilize rates while lawmakers consider broader energy affordability measures.
The request comes as state officials continue to investigate billing issues involving the utility.
