(ASHLEY) -- Acres Away Winery has earned national recognition after winning three awards at the San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition, one of the largest and most respected wine contests in North America.

The Ashley-based winery received two silver medals and one bronze medal in the competition, which draws thousands of entries from wineries across the United States. Wines are judged through blind tastings by panels of experienced judges, with awards based solely on quality.

Silver medals were awarded to First Light, an estate-grown sparkling wine, and Acres Away White, an aromatic blend made from locally grown grapes. A bronze medal was awarded to Norton, the winery's estate-grown, full-bodied dry red.

Owner Shane Christ said earning medals for every wine entered was especially meaningful.

The San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition is widely viewed as a benchmark for excellence in American winemaking, and recognition at the event places Acres Away Winery among producers from both established and emerging wine regions.

The winery continues to focus on producing approachable, distinctive wines that reflect local character and craftsmanship. The recent awards mark another milestone as Acres Away Winery grows as a destination for wine enthusiasts and visitors to northeast Indiana.

Acres Away Winery is located at 425 County Road 23 in Ashley. More information about the winery and upcoming events is available at acresawaywinery.com.
