(ANGOLA) - The Steuben County Republican Chairman's Breakfast will kick off the local primary campaign season Saturday morning at The Heritage Club in Angola.
The event begins at 8 a.m. at 1905 Wolhert St. and marks the first in a series of candidate-focused appearances leading up to the May primary.
Steuben County Sheriff's Detective 1st Sgt. Chris Emerick will be the featured speaker and sponsor of the breakfast, providing coffee and doughnuts for attendees. Emerick is seeking the Republican nomination for Steuben County Sheriff.
Emerick is a U.S. Marine Corps veteran and a 30-year Steuben County resident with more than 25 years of service at the Steuben County Sheriff's Office. He also serves as town marshal in Clear Lake and previously worked with the Ashley Police Department.
In addition to his law enforcement career, Emerick is active in the 101 Lakes Kiwanis Club, American Legion Post 31, serves as an adjunct professor at Trine University and sits on the Steuben County Community Foundation Grants Committee. He and his wife, Ashley, have three children and one grandchild.
Emerick said his campaign is focused on experience, accountability and public safety.
Also scheduled to speak is Tyler Turnwald, engagement director for Americans for Prosperity covering Indiana's 2nd and 3rd Congressional districts.
Turnwald oversees grassroots engagement in legislative races and works with conservative organizations throughout the region.
Turnwald is a graduate of Purdue Fort Wayne with a degree in business, economics and public policy. Americans for Prosperity describes itself as an advocacy organization focused on advancing policies centered on economic freedom and opportunity.
The breakfast is open to the public.
