(NATIONWIDE) - The national average price of gasoline has risen for the first time in seven weeks, according to new data from GasBuddy.

GasBuddy reports the national average increased 3.1 cents over the past week, bringing the nationwide average price to $2.76 per gallon. Prices remain 8.6 cents lower than a month ago and 32.3 cents cheaper than a year ago.

The national average price of diesel fell one cent over the past week to $3.465 per gallon.

GasBuddy head of petroleum analysis Patrick De Haan said rising oil prices near $60 per barrel helped end the streak of weekly declines. He noted that winter gasoline inventories remain high, which could lead to localized discounts before a more widespread seasonal increase begins.

The most common gas price nationwide is $2.49 per gallon. The median U.S. gas price is $2.69, slightly below the national average.

States with the lowest average gas prices include Oklahoma, Texas, and Louisiana. The highest prices are found in Hawaii, California, and Washington.

Michigan and Indiana saw some of the largest weekly increases, with prices rising nearly 12 cents and 11 cents per gallon, respectively.

Tri-State Average Gas Prices on January 21, 2026:

Indiana - $2.81 / gallon

Michigan - $2.95 / gallon

Ohio - $2.74 / gallon

Analysts say markets remain sensitive to global developments, but fuel prices are expected to stay relatively stable in the short term before summer blends begin rolling out.
