(INDIANAPOLIS) - The Civil City of Auburn will receive $100,000 from the state to support and expand local recycling programs after being selected for a Community Recycling Grant from the Indiana Department of Environmental Management.

Auburn was one of 12 communities statewide awarded funding through the grant program, which distributed a total of $500,000 to support projects that reduce waste, increase recycling and lower disposal costs.

State officials say the grant will help Auburn fund recycling initiatives that show clear environmental benefits, boost the amount of material diverted from landfills and remain sustainable long-term.

The Community Recycling Grant Program supports cities, counties, schools, solid waste districts and nonprofit organizations across Indiana. The grants are funded through a fee charged on solid waste disposal at landfills and incinerators, not through taxpayer dollars.

IDEM leaders say the funding is designed to help communities like Auburn build stronger recycling systems that deliver lasting environmental and economic benefits at the local level.
