Improved Internet Access Possibly Coming To Ohio
Friday, December 20, 2019

A plan that would extend high-speed internet to about 1 million unserved or underserved residents in the state of Ohio by using rural routes and highways previously off-limits to private development is currently being discussed within the state capital.

A plan released on Thursday highlighted the ways to make the goal a reality, and if approved by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the aggressive blueprint for expanding and improving broadband access across the state also would boost local governments’ chances of landing federal grants.

Ohio Republican Governor, Mike DeWine stated Ohio’s lack of connectivity is putting the state at a disadvantage.

The plan comes as several digital giants, which include Microsoft and Facebook, are working to provide connectivity in rural, often poor areas of the country.
