(INDIANA) - Starting Monday, January 5, Kroger will give SNAP families a new break at checkout: 20% off fruits and vegetables.

The discount applies at Kroger stores in Indiana for customers who receive government assistance, including SNAP, WIC, and Medicaid. The offer runs through January 31.

To get it, customers must enroll online in Kroger's Verified Savings Program through SheerID. Kroger says once verification is complete, the 20% produce discount is automatically added to the shopper's account.

The launch comes as Indiana rolls out changes to SNAP in response to cuts in federal funding, including new limits on what benefits can buy. Kroger is also offering half-price Boost by Kroger Plus memberships for assistance recipients, which includes perks like free delivery on eligible orders and extra fuel points.
