(FORT WAYNE) - The Indiana State Police Fort Wayne District has a new four-legged crime-fighter on patrol.
Trooper Bryce Kanning and his K-9 partner, Enzo, are officially hitting the road after graduating from the Indiana State Police K-9 Training School. The graduation ceremony was held Wednesday in Indianapolis, recognizing seven new K-9 teams from across the state.
Enzo is a two-and-a-half-year-old German Shepherd trained in tracking, suspect apprehension, narcotics detection, building searches, and evidence recovery. The intensive 12-week school includes more than 480 hours of training, much of it conducted at night and under real-world conditions.
Trooper Kanning has served with the Indiana State Police since 2022. Together, he and Enzo will primarily patrol Whitley and Huntington counties, while also responding to calls throughout the Fort Wayne District as needed.
During the ceremony, Superintendent Anthony Scott and K-9 Master Trainer Sergeant Kevin Waters emphasized the demanding nature of K-9 duty--long hours, after-hours callouts, holidays on the job, and the daily care and training required to keep both handler and canine mission-ready.
State police leaders thanked Trooper Kanning and his family for the commitment that comes with the assignment.
With Enzo now officially on patrol, Indiana State Police say the Fort Wayne District just gained a powerful new partner in public safety.
