(ANGOLA) - Republican nominee for Steuben County Sheriff Chris Emerick has selected longtime Steuben County law enforcement officer Brad Kline as the person he would make chief deputy.

Kline has served with the Steuben County Sheriff's Office since 2006 and is currently First Sergeant of Patrol and Training. He also serves as the Orland Town Marshal.

His career in public safety began with the U.S. Army Military Police, where he served from 1987 to 1991. He later worked for the Noble County Sheriff's Office, served as a reserve officer in Kendallville and worked part time for the Angola and Fremont police departments.

At the Steuben County Sheriff's Office, Kline has served on the Special Response Tactical Team and as a K-9 handler. He now helps oversee patrol training and holds instructor certifications in physical tactics, domestic battery, report writing and active threat response. He is also certified as a Use of Force Expert and has taught in the Rape Aggression Defense program.

Emerick pointed to Kline's experience and focus on training in announcing the selection.

"Brad Kline represents the experience, professionalism, and servant leadership that our Sheriff's Office needs moving forward," Emerick said.

Kline said it would be an honor to continue serving the county as chief deputy.
