(INDIANAPOLIS) - Hoosiers planning a Fourth of July cookout may find lower grocery prices this summer.

Indiana Farm Bureau's annual summer cookout survey found the average cost to feed 10 people is $66.73, or about $6.67 per person. That's a 7 percent decrease from last year's average of $71.49.

Indiana's cookout cost is also lower than the national average of $7.38 per person.

The survey found the biggest price drop came in potato salad, which fell 56 percent from a year ago. Ice cream, chips, hamburger buns and cheese also saw noticeable decreases.

Some items were more expensive this year, including chicken breasts, pork and beans, cookies and strawberries.

Indiana Farm Bureau Chief Economist Todd Davis said lower prices for ground beef and pork chops played a major role in reducing the overall cost of the cookout basket.

The survey included ground beef, cheese, hamburger buns, pork chops, chicken breasts, pork and beans, potato salad, strawberries, chips, ice cream, cookies and lemonade.

Indiana Farm Bureau says volunteer shoppers collected prices from grocery stores across the state in early June while looking for the best available prices without using coupons or special promotions.
