(FORT WAYNE) - An Indiana State Police trooper helped provide life-saving care to a driver who suffered a medical emergency Saturday afternoon in Fort Wayne.

State police say the incident happened shortly after 2:30 p.m. on Union Chapel Road near Coldwater Road.

Preliminary information indicates the driver experienced a medical emergency, causing the truck to leave the roadway.

When the trooper arrived, an off-duty EMS chief had already stopped and was providing aid to the driver. The trooper joined the rescue effort, assisting with CPR and using a department-issued automated external defibrillator, or AED, to deliver life-saving shocks.

The driver was transported to a local hospital and was reported to be recovering as of the latest update. The person's identity was not released.

Indiana State Police, the Fort Wayne Police Department, and firefighters and medics from the Northwest Fire District responded to the scene.
