(ANGOLA) - Trine University has added a family nurse practitioner track to its Master of Science in Nursing program.

University officials say the new track is designed to help address growing demand for advanced practice providers while expanding access to healthcare, particularly in rural and underserved communities.

The online program allows registered nurses who already hold a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree to complete the track in as few as six semesters while continuing to work.

Students will complete 576 supervised clinical hours with a variety of patient populations and receive support in securing clinical placements.

The program is designed to prepare graduates to provide patient care across the lifespan while developing skills in clinical decision-making, leadership, health promotion, disease prevention, ethics, healthcare policy and population-focused care.

The family nurse practitioner track joins Trine's existing MSN tracks in nursing education and nursing informatics.

Federal labor projections estimate demand for nurse practitioners will grow by more than 40 percent over the next decade.
