(BUTLER) - A Butler man is in custody after a reported stabbing Tuesday afternoon in the city. The Star newspaper reports Charles E. Dollahan Jr., 29, faces a preliminary charge of aggravated battery, a Level 3 felony, according to the DeKalb County Sheriff's Office.
Officers from the Butler Police Department and the DeKalb County Sheriff's Office were dispatched to the 100 block of Walnut Street at approximately 4:20 p.m. Tuesday on a report that an adult male had been stabbed by another adult male.
According to the sheriff's office, officers found an adult male suffering from an apparent stab wound and detained a second man nearby.
Investigators determined an altercation occurred before the incident and alleged the victim was stabbed in the abdomen.
The victim was transported to Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne for treatment.
The investigation remains ongoing. Assisting agencies included Indiana State Police, the Butler Police Department, the Butler Fire Department, Parkview EMS and DeKalb County Central Communications.
Detective Matthew P. Haber of the DeKalb County Sheriff's Office is leading the investigation.
A charge is merely an accusation, and a defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
