(ANGOLA) - Trine University's annual Take Back the Night rally and march is happening tonight, Tuesday, April 7th, with a focus on sexual assault awareness, survivor support and prevention.

The event begins at 6 p.m. inside the MTI Center as part of Sexual Assault Awareness Month.

The evening will include food, an information fair, poster-making and free handouts before speakers take the stage to focus on education, prevention and survivor advocacy.

The keynote speaker is Kim Hemker, executive director of the Branch County Coalition Against Domestic and Sexual Violence. A survivor who serves on the coalition's board will also share their story.

The event wraps up with the Walk a Mile in Her Shoes march down Thunder Drive to the Ryan Skybridge and back, with men wearing high heels in support of survivors.

Trine says the event is free and open to the public.

Student organizations have also been holding a penny wars fundraiser leading up to tonight's event, with proceeds benefiting the Branch County Coalition Against Domestic and Sexual Violence.

University leaders say the goal is to continue building awareness around sexual harassment and assault while supporting survivors.
