INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – On Thursday, the Trine University women's track and field team took part in two different events: the Marian University Open and the WashU Distance Carnival. The event inside the state of Indiana concluded, bringing about final results.
The highlight of the day for the Thunder women came in the high jump where Isabel Ferguson tied the school record mark of 1.55 meters (5' 1.00"). She scored a fourth-place finish in the event. Ferguson was also the top scorer for Trine in the triple jump at 9.94 meters (32' 7.50"), good for third. Emma Forker was runner-up in the long jump (5.14 meters / 16' 10.50").
In the 1500-meter run, the Thunder brought home the top four spots. Sidney Swick was the race winner at 4:58.28, followed by Halle Overmire (5:01.38), Sophia Altman (5:04.31) and Marissa Kenney (5:11.85). A majority of that group as well as Emily Wahl also represented Trine in the 4x400-meter relay, where they finished fourth at 4:22.68.
Mackenzie Miller was the highest-placing Trine student-athlete in both the 100-meter dash (12.63 seconds) and 200-meter dash (26.14 seconds). Miller was fourth in the 100 and third in the 200 on the day. Other short distance races included Wahl in the 400-meter dash at 1:03.59 (ninth) and Eleanor Young in the 800-meter run at 2:28.70 (fourth).
The final running events included top-five finishes by Adrianne Jackson with a fourth-place spot in the 400-meter hurdles (1:08.95), Brynn Mericle with a fifth-place finish in the 100-meter hurdles (16.05 seconds), Katie Berlew with a fifth-place finish in the 3000-meter steeplechase (13:29.80) and Grace Huisman with an eighth-place position in the 5000-meter run (21:13.57).
The final top-10 belonged to Avery Boyce, who was sixth in the pole vault at 2.90 meters (9' 6.25"). Abby Sanner led the squad in the discus (11th) and hammer throw (15th) with scores of 36.79 meters (120' 8.00") and 37.52 meters (123' 1.00"). Macy Bonifield was the best scorer in the shot put at 8.85 meters (29' 0.50"), good for 23rd.
The WashU Distance Carnival will wrap up on Friday, March 29 for the remaining members of the team.
