Monday, November 4, 2019

Trine University junior cross country runner Evie Bultemeyer (Fort Wayne, Ind./Homestead) earned her fourth Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Women's Cross Country "Runner of the Week" honor of the season following her performance at the MIAA Cross Country Championship this past weekend.

Bultemeyer finished as the individual champion at the MIAA Championship hosted by Trine on Saturday (Nov. 2) with the top overall time of 22:34.9 in the 6k race and finished 45 seconds ahead of her nearest opponent. She became the first Trine cross country individual champion since joining the MIAA. In her prior two MIAA races, Bultemeyer placed third in 2018 and was 14th as a freshman in 2017.

In addition to capturing her first individual title, Bultemeyer was also named the conference's "Most Valuable Runner" to go along with earning first-team All-MIAA honors, her second first-team honor of her career (2018, 2019).

As a team, the Thunder recorded their highest finish of second place in MIAA competition with an overall score of 49 points. A total of three runners (including Bultemeyer) finished in the top-10 and four placed in the top-15.

Trine will next compete in the annual NCAA Division III Great Lakes Regional Meet on Saturday, Nov. 16. Trine will travel to Grand Rapids, Mich. and Calvin (Mich.) College to run in the event that is set to begin at 11 a.m.
