AUBURN, IN – Four people were arrested on felony drug possession charges after the vehicle they were in led authorities on a chase that ended with a crash in a ditch.

According to the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Department, the incident happened last Friday, May 5th, 2023, just before 2 p.m.

A DeKalb County Sheriff’s Department Deputy attempted to pull over a Nissan sedan that was going 81 mph in a 50 mph zone on Auburn Drive. Reports indicate the Nissan sped away.

The officer reportedly saw what he believed to be drugs being thrown out the sedan’s window during the chase.

Authorities say the pursuit continued to State Road 8, where another officer was putting tire deflation devices at the road’s intersection at County Road CR 59. The Nissan then left the road and took a detour through a gravel lot. Even after leaving the roadway, the driver was able to navigate the vehicle back onto the road and drove toward Butler.

The vehicle again then left the road and drove into a field in the 3000 block of County Road 61. The Nissan hit a “hidden ditch” going 60 mph.

Investigators were able to determine about 2 ounces of methamphetamine had been tossed out of the vehicle during the pursuit.

The driver and all three passengers were injured and taken to the hospital, but were reportedly released and taken to the DeKalb County Jail.

The driver was identified by authorities as 35-year-old William Osbun. His passengers included: 42-year-old Joseph McCoy, 32-year-old Callie Ziems, and 20-year-old Adrianna Aguilar.

All four were all charged with a Level 3 felony possession of methamphetamine.

The incident remains under investigation.

Additional charges could be filed through the DeKalb County Prosecutor’s Office.
