Prairie Heights 8th grade students display a knitting project they created with their teacher, Mrs. Becky Travis.

BRUSHY PRAIRIE, IN - Prairie Heights teacher Becky Travis has shared her love for knitting with students in a project that will be a gift for an area nursing care facility.

Prairie Heights Middle School Students have a block of time in their day that is an enrichment period where students have a wide variety of learning opportunities, whether it be to learn something new or doing service work within the school district.

During the 2nd quarter, 8th grade teacher Becky Travis has been teaching roughly a dozen of her students the art of knitting. During that time, students created knitted blocks that were constructed into a full size blanket.

The team of students and Travis decided to donate the blanket to Northern Lakes Nursing and Rehabilitation. The Angola facility was chosen because of family connections some of the residents have to her students and co-workers at Prairie Heights.

The full size creation will be the grand champion prize for one of the facilities many bingo games for residents.

Travis and her students have not only learned the power of teamwork to create something beautiful through a skilled art form, but also the joy of giving.
