Local Crowd Demonstrates Prior To Steuben County Court Case

ANGOLA — A crowd of roughly a dozen or more people made a public demonstration Monday in front of the Steuben County Courthouse.

The public display was done prior to a Monday afternoon pretrial hearing for Hope A. Richmond, age 45 of Montpelier, Ohio.

Richmond has been charged with crimes related to an incident from October 1st. She allegedly struck Wayden Bennett, who later died from his injuries.

Also injured in the incident was Ryly Cumings.

The boys were walking along County Road 275 North near Lake James when they were struck.

Richmond appeared in Steuben Circuit Court for a pretrial conference on Monday. She is facing up to 14 1/2 years in prison, 2-12 years for a Level 4 felony and 6 months to 2 1/2 years for a Level 6 felony.

A final pretrial conference has been set for May 8th, 2023. A was also scheduled, and is set for August 30th-31st and September 1st.

In addition to her charges in Steuben County, Richmond has a prior conviction out of DeKalb County for operating while intoxicated. She reportedly served 15 days in jail for that charge.
