Sheriff's Office Investigating Alleged Violations Of Sex and Violent Offender Registry Law

ANGOLA, IN - The Steuben County Sheriff's Office is investigating alleged violations of Indiana's Sex and Violent Offender Registry.

On Thursday morning at around 11 AM, registered sex offender, 29 year old Dominique L. Morton of Fremont, IN was taken into custody by Sheriff's detectives following an investigation into several allegations that Morton was in violation of Indiana's Sex and Violent Offender Registry law.

Morton moved from Howard County, Indiana back to Steuben County, Indiana in July (2022) and allegedly began residing at a protected address in the 400 block of East Michael Street in Fremont. Morton also registered an address that he was allegedly not currently living at in Angola while staying at the Fremont address.

Following an interview with Sheriff's detectives, Morton was booked into the Steuben County Jail on 2 counts of Failure to Register as a Sex or Violent Offender with a Previous Conviction, a level 5 felony.

Morton remains held in lieu of a $10,000.00 bond.

The case remains under investigation and additional charges may be sought.

Assisting the Steuben County Sheriff's Office in the investigation were the Fremont Police Department and several tips received from the public.
