ELKHART, IN - A man is dead after his vehicle crashed into a river in Elkhart County.
It happened shortly after 11:30 AM Monday morning along the St. Joseph River at McNaughton Park.
According to Elkhart City Police, a bystander approached an officer near the scene when it happened and informed the officer of a vehicle that drove into the river. The officer reportedly jumped in to try to save the person, but the vehicle was already fully submerged.
Authorities confirmed a body of a man was found inside an SUV that was recovered from the river.
